THE EXHIBITION SITES HAVE BEEN SELECTED!
The Kaskinen Wooden House and Renovation Fair 2025 is approaching, and we are thrilled to present 16 fantastic exhibition sites!
This year, the fair features beautiful wooden houses, gardens, and special destinations that you can visit in August. The sites are divided into finished homes, gardens, sauna/special sites, renovation projects – and we also have three bonus locations!
Here is a preliminary list of the sites – more detailed descriptions and photos will be published later in spring and summer.
Garden Site:
• Aleksanterinkatu 60 (Garden)
Sauna / Special Site:
• Satamakatu 4 / Tervahovinkatu 1,
A 1950s outbuilding featuring a sauna renovated in 2018
Finished Homes:
• Cneiffinpolku 6
A blue wooden house over 100 years old, part of which once served as a reading room for sailors. The current family renovated the house 30 years ago – the home is full of history and continuity.
• Bladhintie 4
Built in 1941, fully renovated in 2017 and extended in 2021. The home is built on bedrock, resulting in five different floor levels shaped by the terrain. The house is home to two adults, four children, and a French bulldog. At the heart of the garden stands a detailed replica of the Kaskinen lighthouse.
• Raatihuoneenkatu 4
Built by Postmaster Selim Sanfrid Sandman in 1879. From 1905 onward, City Physician Uno Axel Fleege received patients upstairs until his death in 1922. The current resident has lived in the house for 37 years and established the Savipaja pottery studio in the side building in 1988. Since 1999, the studio has been run together with a spouse – alongside a growing beautiful garden.
• Kirkkokatu 17 Apartment 2
A spacious and quiet two-story row house apartment from the early 1980s. A rare "domino house," built with a steel frame and no load-bearing interior walls – the spaces can be freely modified. The apartment serves as an Airbnb rental, with interior renovations completed in January 2025.
• Prinssi Eerikinkatu 14
A home from the 1890s with a yard that has undergone a major transformation: the Kässäkolo craft shop, woodworking studio, greenhouse, terraces, and a new fence create an inspiring and functional ensemble.
• Raatihuoneenkatu 54A
The original history of the house dates back to the 1860s. We have aimed to renovate gently, preserve, and highlight as many original or old surfaces as possible. The house has been renovated and extended over the years, featuring elements from many decades – making it interesting and delightfully layered.
• Bladintie 80, 64260 Kaskinen
A house built in 1792, renovated in 2021–2022 after a long period of silence.
• Raatihuoneenkatu 44a
Foggy Island B&B, Ice Cream Garden, and the spirit of sea captain Saxen’s era.
Renovation Projects:
• Bladhintie 59
This log house was built in 1834 and has stood empty since the late 1970s. We purchased the house in July 2023 and immediately began a full renovation. The starting point was challenging – the house had no water or drainage – but we have embarked on the renovation with heart and great enthusiasm.
• Raatihuoneenkatu 39
Located in a central spot by Kaskinen's market square, this building has played a significant role in the town’s commercial history. Over the years, it has functioned as a cooperative store, a hardware and general store, and most recently as a pub named Café Kung Gustav. The building’s history is rich and eventful, and we are excited to share more about it during the fair.
• Suutarinkatu 8
This beautiful log house was built in 1909 as the home and office of merchant Elis Sylvin. The building was designed and constructed by Gustaf Rosenlöf. The house reflects the style of its era and is a fine example of Kaskinen’s architectural heritage. The garden was once said to be the most beautiful in Kaskinen – let’s see how well we can bring it back to life!
Bonus Sites – Unique locations that complement the fair experience:
• Aleksanterinkatu 20
A small courtyard building (16 m², built in 1939) styled as a summer cabin. A peek onto the porch (built in 2006–2007).
• Raatihuoneenkatu 48 (Kaskinen Local Heritage Museum)
A historical museum site from the mid-1800s. In the courtyard, a relocated and restored fisherman’s home (1800–1950) is on display. Exhibit of old architectural drawings and photographs. Museum open on August 16–17 from 1 PM to 5 PM, free entry.
• Benviksvägen 5
A house built in 1786 by Peter Johan Bladh, now being lovingly restored by its current owners with respect for its past.
August 16–17, 2025
